Can pregnant women fly?
No. Balloon landings can sometimes be rough and carry the risk of sudden impact. Therefore, as a safety protocol, pregnant passengers are not permitted to fly. This rule is standard worldwide to protect the health of the mother and baby.
Can children fly?
Yes, but there is an age limit. Generally, children under the age of 6 are not allowed on balloon flights. This is because the turbulence during landing, the height of the basket, and the safety procedures may not be suitable for small children. For safety reasons, it is preferable that children are old enough to understand the pilot’s instructions.
How can I pay for the balloon tour?
Generally, online payment, credit card, wire transfer/EFT, or in office payment options are available. A deposit is commonly required at the time of booking. Pricing may vary depending on the date, season, and preferred flight type.
How long does the tour last?
The entire process takes approximately 2.5–3 hours. Of this, 50–75 minutes are spent in the air. The remaining time can be accounted for by transfer, preparations, post-landing activities, and drop-off at the hotel.
What happens if a flight is canceled due to weather conditions?
In this case, cancellations are usually free of charge or postponed to the next day. Since air safety is the top priority, companies do not fly on risky days/are not allowed to fly.
What should I bring with me?
Water, a camera, a phone, and personal belongings are sufficient. Large bags are not recommended as the basket is narrow.
Where are you flying?
Flights generally take place around Göreme, Love Valley, Kızılçukur, Zelve, and Avanos. The route is determined each day based on the wind conditions.
Who inspects the balloon and who ensures its safety?
The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) actively monitors local aviation authorities and international ballooning regulations. Permission for each flight is granted by the SHGM each morning.
Are we getting up before sunrise?
Yes. All standard flights take off just before sunrise. This ensures the air is at its most stable and allows passengers to witness the sunrise hot air balloons, one of Cappadocia’s most iconic sights.
Are balloon flights conducted year round?
Generally yes, but it depends entirely on weather conditions. Flights can be operated in Cappadocia throughout the year; however, flights are canceled on rainy, windy, or foggy days for safety reasons. The civil aviation authority issues permits every morning, and all companies comply with this.
How high can the balloon go?
Most flights reach between 500 and 1,000 meters, but can climb up to 1,800 meters if weather conditions permit. Pilots adjust altitude taking into account both the scenic experience and air traffic safety.
How will I get back to the hotel?
Tours usually include a pick-up and drop-off service from the hotel. After the flight, the team arrives at the landing point by car and takes all guests back to their hotels.
What should I wear?
Seasonally appropriate, comfortable clothing is recommended. Mornings can be cool, so dressing in layers is a good idea. Trainers are compulsory; heels or sandals are not suitable for safety reasons.
